Trip cost = (distance ÷ 100) × your car’s consumption in litres per 100km × the price per litre. It’s the same formula fuel-economy stickers and trip computers use — nothing more sophisticated than that, run entirely in your browser.
7.5 L/100km is a reasonable average for a small-to-medium petrol car doing a mix of open-road and town driving in South Africa. Your actual car may use noticeably more or less — check your manual, trip computer, or your last few fill-ups for a more accurate number, and type it in.
The petrol and diesel defaults match SharpCheck’s own Fuel Price page, which tracks the official monthly inland pump price. Coastal prices are usually a little lower — overwrite the price field if that applies to you.
